Thiyagam - Activities at a glance

    • Focus:   Empowering rural women with disabilities.
    • Conducting special training programs for Physically Challenged Women (PCW) and also women in distress living in rural areas to promote the development opportunities. 
    • Running and maintaining a Tailoring Unit for PCW enabling training and earning capacity and so far 65 challenged women have empowered by the Unit.
    • Running and maintaining a Free Stay Home for PCW coming from rural. 
    • Running a Computer Centre giving  Skill training in the System to secure immediate employment.
    • Arranging to provide Wheel chair, three wheeler scooter and crutches to PCW’s through service organizations. 
    • To give counseling and referral service on employment and also other issues relating to Challenged Persons.
    • Thiyagam Self-Help group formed to encourage self employment. 
    • Thiyagam Cultural team formed to spread happiness and awareness.
    • Thiyagam Narpanbu Kalvi Maiyam(TNKM)  evening free tuition centres in 10 villages around Madurai is running to flower humaneness in students and to create Role Model citizens in every field of our society who will set an example in uprightness, integrity and humaneness.
    • Thiyagam solicits your wholehearted guidance, support and co-operation to reach the unreachable.

IMPACT - 2008- 09

Individual level:
  • Vth Std Girl Sonia is regularly playing with MR child in her village and give him company(Keelamathur)
  • IX boy Arunkumar has given his seat to a pregnant women in the bus(Keelamathur)
  • She gives food to a blind elderly women every day from her house(Keelamathur)
  • VII girl Muthusheela has handed over the money bag to elderly women.(Melakkal)
  • Vth girl Sonia has handed over the hand bag to its owner when she went to Provision stores(Keelamathur)
Family level:
  • III std girl Simran helped her mother in household during the illness of her. (Keelamathur)
  • Mutheeswari IX girl has given away her humble savings of Rs.80/- to her mother in times of difficulty(Kamatchipuram)
  • Suganya IX student has decided to stop her studies at the instance of her grand mother. The centre has appealed to her grand mother to help Suganya to continue her studies. The grand mother accepted their suggestion and permitted Suganya to continue her studies(Kamatchipuram)
  • VII Saranya has given away to her mother when she has no means to prepare ‘kuzhambu’ from her little savings of Rs.20/-.(Thiruvedagam)
  • VII Rakku’s is finishing her cooking in the evening before coming to tuition centre. Her mother comes home at 7.30 in the night after the labor work.(Thiruvedagam)
  • Ist std Sasikumar has earned Rs.30 by plucking rose flower. He handed over the amount to his father and obtained Re.1 for his snacks. .(Melakkal)
School level:
  • LKG boy Vasigaran has shared lunch with his classmate Swetha(Keelamathur)
  • IX girl Nandini has started paying attention to teacher and reduced her talking while teaching(Pudur)
  • III Suryaprakash III Sundar has taught lessons to other children(Thiruvedagam)
  • X boy Arjun Prakash won the prize in Drawing competition and also teaches drawing to fellow students(Kamatchipuram)
  • Usha IX has shared her food with another student who fainted away without eating any food at home.(Pudur)
  • X girl Usha now understands her mistake when teacher scolds her. She now not grumbling within against teacher(Pudur)
  • VII Rakku shared Thirukkural and the need for values with other classmates in the school.(Thiruvedagam)
  • Vth boy Vinoth, VIIth girl Chithra are sharing stories of values with other children in the school(Keelamathur)
  • IX boy Arunkumar used share his skills like singing, story telling with his classmates during leisure period(Keelamathur)
  • Govt. School teacher has suggested to start a tuition centre at Kodimangalm through one student Kalaimani(Pudur)
Social level:
  • Teacher and children shared with village elders the life skills learned at centre. (Keelamathur)
  • The Centre students themselves arranged fencing around the tuition centre and have planted trees in front of tuition centre. Kamatchipuram)
  • VIII girl Bhavani has handed over Rs.100/- to the owner who missed it on the way (Pudur)
  • Children have cleaned the water tank(Pudur)
  • Poopandi, Hariprakash has rescued a boy from the drainage. They have given him a bathe and led him to his home.(Melakkal)
  • VI Poopandi has put out the fire with water from rubbish due to burning cigar thrown by someone. .(Melakkal)
  • Ward member appreciated students for cleaning cow dung in front of tuition centre(Thiruvedagam)
Emotional level:
  • Students are encouraged to express their understanding level openly. They are now expressing clearly - Yes sir, I know this. No sir, I don't know this. (Kamatchipuram)
  • Students are encouraged to come forward and express their mistakes and also take a decision not to repeat it(Kamatchipuram)
  • How I can be useful to others’ - every day children are asking themselves(Keelamathur)
  • Fighting, bullying and using of bad words has reduced significantly with centre children(Keelamathur)
Academic level:
  • Students are maintaining punctuality in coming to centre(Kamatchipuram)
  • VI std Vinoth is getting good marks in the class and was appreciated by School teacher(Keelamathur)
  • VIII boy Solai raja has improved in his writing tamil without mistakes(Keelamathur)
  • IX girl Pandiselvi has developed her English language (Kamatchipuram)
  • II std Nagarjun has scored good marks in all the subjects, especially in Computer he scored 97 marks.
Talent level:
  • Spoken English, General knowledge has also been taught at the centre and the children are learning the same eagerly. (Kamatchipuram)
  • IX Anbukarthik has taught yoga to other students .(Melakkal)
  • VIII Panchu has inspired other students with singing and puzzles.(Melakkal)
  • VIII Raja while playing Cricket has given first aid to his friend Kathiresan when he was wounded.(Thiruvedagam)
  • Children expressed their talent in the Drama and dance on the occasion of Children’s Day(Keelamathur)
  • VIII Saravanan teaching Karate to fellow students in the villages(Thiruvedagam)
